REVIEW by Dolly: Dream Eyes (Dark Legacy #2) by Jayne Ann Krentz – Released 1/8 (@JayneAnnKrentz , @Fidget78)

The death of her friend and mentor, Evelyn Ballinger, brings psychic counselor Gwen Frazier back to the small town of Wilby, Oregon, and brings back memories she would rather forget. Two years earlier, a killer stalked the members of one of Ballinger’s research studies including Gwen. And though she survived while two others didn’t, Gwen knows that Ballinger’s death is related.

Sent by a friend to help Gwen, psychic investigator Judson Coppersmith arrives in Wilby barely in control of his own talent and his own life, haunted by urgent dreams. His attraction to Gwen is primal, but there are secrets he must keep to protect himself from surrendering to her completely, even as their investigation draws them into dreamscapes, into decades of deception, and into the paranormal fires of a desire too strong to resist. . . .

As a die hard Jayne Ann Krentz fan, I read all her novels (along with her Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle novels). The first in the Dark Legacy Series, Copper Beach, wasn’t one of my favorites. This one is much better.

I re-read my review of Copper Beach and even though I wrote it, I don’t remember the novel that well. Dream Eyes, I will remember. I read this novel in about 24 hours. It wasn’t the mystery so much as the characters that kept me interested this time around. Gwen and Judson are an intriguing couple. You know they are going to get together but the by play is interesting and entertaining. Everything isn’t out in the open with these two; they both have many layers. I found them both a little dark but likable.

The mystery element was well disguised. I thought I had things figured out two or three different times. I ended up batting 1 for 3. Ms Krentz really hid the clues very well but they were there. No contrived antagonist or convenient endings in this novel. It flowed nicely from beginning to end. It also connected to the first in the series, Copper Beach. I’m anxious to read the final novel in the Dark Legacy Trilogy.

My Rating:  4 Stars.
