Seventeen-year-old Alice Bonham’s life feels out of control after she meets Jack. With his fondness for pink Chuck Taylors and New Wave hits aside, Jack’s unlike anyone she’s ever met.
Then she meets his brother, Peter. His eyes pierce through her, and she can barely breathe when he’s around. Even though he can’t stand the sight of her, she’s drawn to him.
But falling for two very different guys isn’t even the worst of her problems. Jack and Peter are vampires, and Alice finds herself caught between love and her own blood…
This is a young adult paranormal romance with mild language and mild sexual situations recommended for readers in grade 9 and up.
This is one of those books that as soon as I finished it, I downloaded the next in the series and immediately started it. That’s happened a few times for me but not that many. This was the first book I had read by this author, although I have heard of her books many times.
What I liked about this book:
I loved the main characters of Alice and Jack. They were very well imagined by the author. I felt like I knew them by the end of the book, always a sign of good characterization for me. Alice’s brother Milo and Jack’s family are all fully drawn by author as well.
I loved the premise of the book. Alice is a seventeen year old high school student that meets a young vampire named Jack one night. They immediately become the best of friends. Problem? She doesn’t know what he is. It doesn’t take her long to realize something isn’t right with him or his family.
I loved that while it was a pretty simple story (not much action), it was just such a good story. I couldn’t put it down- literally. I started it yesterday and am already over 60 percent done with the next.
What I didn’t like about this book:
Not much. If I had to pick one thing, it would be that it was a sort of Twilight type book. There is a love triangle and a few other things in common as well. That being said, I actually am one of those people that liked Twilight so this didn’t bother me a bit. And I should also say that there was quite a bit that was really different.
Who would I recommend this book to:
Anybody that likes paranormal romance or just a well written, good story will enjoy this. It’s considered young adult(older young adults would be my thought) but I think adults would like it too. I did!
