Back from their quest into the Underworld, with the threat of Lucian hanging over head, Emma is faced with yet another problem—the Immortal Bond. The bond surpasses any reason and is something so complex, not much is known about it. Once an Immortal Bond is made, it is forever. A conjoining of two fated hearts, destined to be perfect companions.
Emma’s heart, already bonded with her Guardian, Kade, has unexpectedly and inconveniently bonded with Ethon, the son of Lucifer. Now she is faced with a decision she doesn’t want to make. Both want nothing more than to love and protect her.
With the arrival of new company and old friends, things are bound to get heated.
There’s some really good young adult books to be had out there. This book is part of one of the better young adult series titled, Hidden Wings. They are always really fast reads for me, and this one, the third and latest(not counting a novella) was no exception.
After quite the cliffhanger in the last book, Broken Wings, this book starts exactly where the last one ended-on the steps with Kade looking on, after Ethon, Lucifer’s son, announced his bonding with Emma. I must admit to not liking cliffhangers and that one was pretty major. So now we have Emma, Kade and Ethon in the love triangle from Hell-pun intended.
What I liked about this book:
Of course I liked the characters. All of this authors characters are very likable, although I must admit that Ethon was not my favorite, nor were his two sidekicks from Hell. I also liked that the characters from Hidden Wings, Lia and Jeremy, are a big part of this book. As Emma’s best friends from Los Angeles, they help keep the story fun and light, not knowing that the Angels are in a war with the Fallen-and it’s happening all around them. A big part of the story this time is trying to keep them in the dark, while the Fallen are attacking all around them. Made for some interesting and at times almost fun escapes and action scenes.
I liked that the setting of the book takes place back in Alaska and not Hell-as occurred in the previous book. I do realize that when you are writing about Angels, Hell is bound to be involved somewhere along the line. I was just happy Emma was back home for this installment.
I enjoyed Emma’s relationship with Kade. He has been her protector since the beginning, even before her parents death-although she wasn’t aware of him then. Since he is now mortal, his bond with Emma is no longer active, but that doesn’t stop their caring for each other, and I liked that. I would really like to see Cade get back his immortality in a future installment!
I also loved the banter and playfulness of all the Guardians. These are the guys you would want to have you back in a bad situation. They would save the day and have a really fun time while doing it!
What I didn’t like about the book:
The character of Ethon just really irked me. I didn’t like that he is bonded to Emma, to the point she couldn’t resist him when he wanted to kiss her. I know that some people may really like him, but he just wasn’t my favorite. Emma went against all her feelings for Kade at times to be with Ethon and it just didn’t seem like her at all. I just wanted her to be stronger then the bond. And I do know that this is all part of the author moving the story line along but still..
And then there is the cliffhanger. It’s not as bad as some I have experienced but still we have to wait awhile to find out how the end of the book is resolved. As I said, I am not a fan of cliffhangers. At the same time, I do know that I will be buying the next book as soon as it is released.
Who do I recommend this book to:
This book is perfect for young adults that enjoy a good paranormal story, and angels in particular. There are no sexual scenes, but there is the occasional swear word. Some violence occurs, but that is to be expected when a war is being waged.
