RELEASE DAY REVIEW by Lorna: Four Seconds to Lose (Ten Tiny Breaths #3) by K.A. Tucker (@KathleenaTucker, @Mollykatie112)

I believe you don’t have years, or months, or weeks to impact a person’s life. You have seconds. Seconds to win them over, and seconds to lose them.
Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second-guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with his staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control . . . and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.
Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl, but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can’t get distracted by romance.
Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.
four seconds to lose

This is the third in a series by this author that also includes, Ten Tiny Breaths and One Tiny Lie. The first two books are about two sisters and what happens to them after a horrific accident kills their parents. This book is about Cain, the owner of the strip club that employed one of the sisters, as a bartender. Cain was always shown previously, as a bit of an enigma, and nothing much is told about him, other then how kind he is. We finally find out his story and his reasons for being in such a sleazy profession.

What I liked about this book:
I loved the characters of Cain and Charlie. Charlie has been sent to Florida to do her step-fathers bidding. This includes some really unsavory and illegal activity, but Charlie can’t escape the long reach of her almost mafia type step-father. She decides to make another life for herself to make money that he won’t know about so she can escape. Cain’s strip club fits the bill for this. Cain, as a man with his own unsavory past, takes one look at Charley and falls for her. He’s the ultimate good guy, who just happens to own a strip club.

The evil step-father sets the story up for suspense and some action. You really come to understand Charlie’s reasons for doing what she does, both illegally and as a stripper.
I also like the glimpses of other characters from the previous books. I loved the previous books so it was nice to catch up with favorite characters.

What I didn’t like about this book:
The setting of a strip club wasn’t my favorite setting for a book, in any way and had I not liked Cain’s character from the previous books, I probably would not have read it.

The other thing I didn’t like was how Charlie played the weak heroine at times. Yes, she was in a bad situation, but there were times that I wanted her to just tell someone what was going on already! I know it moved the story along but I just got tired of her holding everything in.

Who would I recommend this book to:
Anyone that loved the first two books(as I did) needs to read this. Even though it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone book easily. So that means, adults who like a good romance with a bit of suspense will enjoy this book.

K.A. Tucker is one of my favorite go to authors now. I think she is a good writer, one that knows how to write good characters and in this book, suspense. I can definitely recommend this whole series as a good read.
