NEW RELEASE REVIEW by Lorna: Love, In English by Karina Halle – Released 4/20/2014 (@Metalblonde, @Mollykatie112)

A standalone, contemporary romance about the ultimate forbidden love…
He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.
He speaks Spanish. I speak English.
He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.
He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.
He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.
I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.
Until now. Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the damn truth.

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.
Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Spanish charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.
Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.
Something that can never, ever be.
Or so she thinks.

Can I just say that I love Karina Halle’s Experiment in Terror and Devil’s Metal series so very much? When I first heard of this book, I knew I had to read it. What I didn’t know was that I would spend a whole day reading it, almost non-stop. I could not put it down. This is the authors first stand alone romance. If this is that good on a first try, I can’t wait to read her next romance- if there is one! But then, I do love this author, so I am not shocked here.
Vera Miles (yes, like the actress) is a free spirit. But she is also a very lonely person. She is tattooed all over her body pretty much, and pierced. She goes to Spain to spend a month as a conversational English speaker so that Spaniards can be immersed in the language to help get rid of their accents and speak better English. It’s a month long program with 39 other people-half Anglo, half Spanish. They are isolated in a complex in the middle of nowhere and spend their time either teaching or learning. At night, they drink, party and for some, hookup. Vera meets Mateo and immediately is attracted. He is a former soccer star, rich, handsome, well dressed and married with a small child. There is a fifteen year age gap. Total opposites. But of course they fall in love.

What I liked about this book:
I loved the characters of Vera and Mateo. First their friendship, and then their love was just so real and a shining example of what love should be. And if you are wondering, they don’t fall into bed immediately. Vera does have a moral code, even if her body art doesn’t necessarily reflect that.(not that there is anything wrong with tattoos, this is just what some haters in the book think).

I was pleased to see that the author has realized a big group of the characters to the point that you feel like you know them almost as well as the two main characters. This is not always done well, but Ms. Halle knows how to do this, and do it well!
I liked that the author keeps us guessing about a happily ever after. Is there going to be one or not? I say I like it, but I was on the edge of my chair for a lot of the book. And no I am not telling.
And lastly, I loved everything about this book. Everything!

What I didn’t like about the book:
NOTHING. Enough Said.

Who would I recommend this book to:
In a nutshell? Adult romance readers and any of Karina Halle’s many fans will like this book. And it is an adult read.

To sum it up, please don’t judge this book because of the adulterous theme. Sometimes there is a lot more to a story then meets the eye. And sometimes people are married to the wrong people.
