[JENA] We have readers all over the world and I am always curious to see where our favorite authors are from. Where do you call base camp?
LORI WORLEY [LORI] Bakersfield, California

[JENA] A common trend as of late is cross-genre authors. It has become relatively uncommon to come across an author who only writes in one specific genre. It seems there are a lot of writers who like to dip their toes in all sorts of pools. Which genre or genres do you write?
[LORI] I write in the Literary Fiction genre and I am trying my hand at a Contemporary Romance/ Women’s Lit with my next book.

[JENA] Writers get inspiration from all over the place. Movies, books, music, people in their life, their own life, etc. Who or what is your most common muse?
[LORI] Music. My one constant and true muse is always music.

[JENA] Are you 100% independently published or do you have traditional contracts as well? If you are 100% indie, would you ever consider a traditional publishing contract? Why or why not?
[LORI] I am 100% independently published at this point but I would consider a traditional contract for my books in the Literary Fiction genre and the children’s series I am working on because they are more difficult to market on my own. I like to have complete artistic control, no deadlines, and the ability to publish in multiple genres.

[JENA] Writer’s block sucks. What do you do to overcome the blank stare when it hits you with everything it has got?
[LORI] I work on something else, another manuscript or I focus on my photography until it passes. I think having other places to invest your passion keeps you from burning out.

[JENA] Let’s gab about your books. What fictiony goodness have you already unleashed on the general populous?
[LORI] I published my debut novel, The Mermaid’s Lament last December. It’s a dark fairytale that involves a mermaid and a small freak show environment.

[JENA] What’s next for you and your writing? Any new titles coming out?
[LORI] I am going through the editor phase and the cover design phase on, Something Like That. It is a new contemporary romance/ women’s lit novel that I hope to publish this summer. I am also currently working on another dark fairytale that is written in the same vein as The Mermaid’s Lament.

[JENA] The latest trend with the indie author world is massive book signings and conventions featuring anywhere from 20 authors to 200 authors. What has your experience been at these events? Do you enjoy them? Or do they make you twitch and sweat?
[LORI] I have yet to experience one of the mass book signings but I am looking forward to delving into that area of being an author.

[JENA] Do you have any appearances coming up? If so, tell us when and where (provide links if you have them).
[LORI] I will be at http://puretextualitycon.com/

[JENA] Now it’s time for some just-for-fun questions! If you were digitized like Tron and put on the internet what site would you visit first?
[LORI] I would probably visit the CIA website.

[JENA] Have you ever Googled yourself? If so, were you surprised or shocked by any of the results?
[LORI] I have out of boredom and it turns out there are a few of me and some of the other Lori Worley’s out there have fascinating careers.

[JENA] What would you do with a million dollars?
[LORI] I would travel with my family and I would design my own house in the aesthetic of Tim Burton in Seattle, Washington. I would also donate quite a bit to charities that involve giving low income children an opportunity to participate in programs that involve the arts. I can’t lie, I would also spend a great deal of money concert stalking Green Day.

[JENA] If you were trapped on a desert island with one CD that you could listen to for the rest of your life what would it be?
[LORI] The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan – Bob Dylan

[JENA] How do you consume – read the book then watch the movie or watch the movie then read the book?
[LORI] I do both. I usually consume book and then tried to ingest and not regurgitate the movie but there are always exceptions where I discover the movie before the book.

[JENA] If you could live forever, would you? Why or why not?
[LORI] No, I have a short attention span and boredom would become inevitable.

[JENA] If you were faced with the zombie apocalypse and had to pick five people to be on your survival team, who would you pick?
[LORI] Jet Li (small and fights well) Daryl Dixon(For so many reasons) Ryan Hardy ( its kevin bacon) The Bride ( one word… Badass) Billie Jo Armstrong ( I need music and I have needs 😉 )

[JENA] Imagine the concept of reincarnation is real, who or what would you hope to come back as in your next life?
[LORI] An octopus.
