I recently read all of this series in a 4-5 day time period, and loved every minute of it. I had never read anything by this author, but I am so glad I tried reading these. It’s young adult with so much action and romance that the adult reader will find a lot to love about this read as well.
This series is about a teenage(now 18) girl,Kat, that moves next door to fellow senior in high school, Daemon. He’s the epitome of the hottest guy a teenage girl would ever hope to meet, and oh yes, he’s not from Earth. They fall in love after a love-hate relationship, and have been through so many life or death moments, that it’s hard to think how they literally could still be alive at this point. In this, the United States Government’s offshoot, Daedalus, are the main villains. Experimenting on the aliens and the hybrids(human’s that have been healed by aliens), is the order of the day for Daedalus, and if that includes pain and suffering, well that’s too bad. Now another villainous group has arrived on earth. The Luxen are here and have no idea how to assimilate on earth other then to try an conquer the human race. This involves taking over their bodies(Invasion of the Body Snatchers, anyone?) and wreaking havoc on the world. Daemon, his sister Dee, and brother, Dawson, are all Luxen, but were brought up on Earth, and find these Luxen to be nothing like what they are used to-not at all!
My favorite part of this read is the romance between Daemon and Kat, and that leads to how much I loved both of these characters. Daemon has a smart mouth, but Kat holds her own in the snark department, making for some pretty hilarious conversations, pretty much throughout the series. Both of them have a deep love for each other, and are totally loyal to each other no matter what is thrown at them. And believe me, they have everything, aside from the kitchen sink, thrown at them.
Ms. Armentrout has written one of the most exciting adventure stories, I have ever read. Non-stop action at times, interspersed with a sweet, and yes sometimes lustful, romance(nothing really explicit), make up this book. The author isn’t shy about killing off massive amounts of people, and sometimes those people are characters from the series-the good and the bad. This read went from the highs of first real love, to the lows of not knowing if the characters will survive from one page to the next. Exciting stuff!
I couldn’t stop reading these books, literally. My life the days I read these, was spent immersed in the Luxen world, and I enjoyed every minute. I don’t think I even watched television, and even ate my meals while reading. If you like a good romance, with great characters, and an exciting plot, you can’t go wrong with these books. I can’t think of a thing I didn’t like about them.
I would recommend these to all older, young adults,16 plus, and of course adults that like a good romance, with a science fiction story.
