REVIEW by Jen: Grimoires & Lip Gloss by Kitten K. Jackson

After Bonnie Bennett prevents the annihilation of Mystic Falls by Hellfire, she’s packed her bags and bought her plane tickets, and she’s off to see the world!

In Milan, Italy, she meets a man who needs assistance… from a witch. Believing that she’s going to rescue his sister from a vampire who is hoarding women, using them as human blood bags, she performs a locator spell and races off with him to find her. When things go awry, will Bonnie’s magic be enough to save her from the fangs of a centuries-old vampire and his cohorts?

Meanwhile, back in Mystic Falls, everything seems more peaceful than usual. That’s never a good sign, as something sinister is always afoot. With Damon and Elena’s wedding and the Halloween party at the Salvatore School for the Young & Gifted approaching, could this be the calm before the storm?

Jen’s Review

Following the events from the world of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, Bonnie Bennett, a very powerful witch from Mystic Falls, decided it was time to take a break from her hometown. No…more like a vacation from the weirdness and supernatural things she always has to deal with. We begin this particular story/adventure of hers in a small town in Italy, the latest destination during her extended trip around the world.

To her, it’s love at first sight. She sees this small town as a place to heal from her grief after losing Enzo, her former flame. Although he’s gone, sometimes she can still hear him, which is comforting to her in a strange way. She takes a job in the small town’s restaurant to earn a bit of extra money. There, her new boss introduces her to a sweet, older lady who wants companionship more than anything. Bonnie rents a room from her at a reasonable price and there she meets Mia, a believer in the supernatural who hears strange noises at night.

A handsome, young man named Tony is introduced when his younger sister is kidnapped by a vampire and he seeks out Bonnie (since he somehow knew she was staying in the same town as him). And with those sad puppy eyes, he ropes her into helping him out, and since Bonnie is such a sweet soul, she couldn’t say no to the pitiful look he keeps giving her. The question is will they be on time to save his sister? Will Bonnie find a new love in Tony? And will she let Enzo and her relationship finally rest in peace? You have to read it to find out.

GRIMOIRES & LIP GLOSS is fairly fast-paced, and it gives you time to embrace and care for the minor/supporting characters, all of whom have well-written, distinct personalities of their own. It’s a pretty good read. If you’re a fan of The Vampire Diaries, I highly recommend reading this book.
