RUN FROM FEAR
More than anything, Talia Vega wanted to leave behind her harrowing past. Moving eight hundred miles away, she succeeded . . . until the one man who knows her darkest secrets wanders into the restaurant where she works. Now the agonizing memories come crashing back-along with an undeniable desire for Jack Brooks, the ex-Green Beret who rescued her from a sadistic monster two years ago.
Jack Brooks knows that showing up unannounced is a purely selfish move. Talia doesn’t need his protection anymore, but he can’t get the raven-haired beauty out of his mind. And when a twisted madman is hell-bent on resurrecting her torturous past, Jack vows to do anything to keep her safe-even risk his own life to save the only woman he’s ever loved.

This is the first novel I’ve read by this author.  While it won’t be the last, I was slightly underwhelmed.  I did not realize this was part of a series but soon got that impression due to the way the author wrote about the secondary characters.

The premise of the story seemed a good one but the romantic part of the suspense seemed forced and rushed. The suspenseful section of the novel was very well written, however it was somewhat predictable. I did enjoy Ms Alden’s sense of humor in some of her passages. The heroine is spunky at times and then reverts to a damsel in distress persona.

“She was as he grabbed a pillow.  Oh, God, was he going to kill her in his sleep?  Was he having some god-awful PTSD flashback like Owen on Grey’s Anatomy?”
” A lovely fantasy, she thought as she dressed, put on makeup, and dried her hair.  Too bad it was about as likely to happen as Sarah Palin retreating to a quiet life out of the spotlight.”.

These were the highlights for me. As I said the novel was well written just not in my opinion not executed to the fullest.
If you’ve followed the series from the beginning, we would probably want this in your collection. Or maybe not. I’ve gotten spoiled with the reduced pricing for Kindle books. This book is listed at $7.99 for both the paperback and the Kindle version. Sorry I wouldn’t pay it. Borrow it from a friend first.
My rating, an extremely weak
