On an alternate earth, a cataclysm has altered a subset of the population. Talents are persecuted for their psychic and physical mutations, giving rise to two conflicting societies based upon maintaining genetic purity. And the Source, a shadowy corporate entity dependent upon the exploitation of captive Talents, is hunting them.
In Breaker, Flynn Scot is self-exiled to the Outside, oath-bound to a life of strict penance. Haunted by the blood-stained debauchery of his past, he's sworn off women, whiskey, and violence, and doesn’t give a damn about whispers of the coming war. He sure as hell isn’t in the mood to make good on a debt when it’s called in, especially when playing white knight outs him as a Talent, and the damsel in distress as his soulmate.
But escaped Talent Kara Jester is no distressed damsel. On the run from her future as a broodmare for the Source, the last thing she wants is to be trapped in a blizzard with a surly—and frustratingly captivating—thug. Without the suppression meds holding her libido in check, her biology’s primed to procreate, and Flynn’s growled assurances that he won’t touch her doesn’t match the hunger in his eyes.
And it doesn’t align with what fate has in store for them, either.
In Binder, Flynn and Kara have made it to the north, but they’re far from safe. Glynfyls's the ruling body known as the Assembly has become ineffectual at best and treasonous at worst, leaving the Northern Territories ripe for invasion. Under the threat of blackmail, Flynn Scot is forced into a leadership position to combat the corruption and to protect his family. Titus is coming, and unless Flynn can convince the Assembly that the threat from the Source is real, every Talent in the North faces harvesting.
Meanwhile, Kara is floundering, questioning her place in the North along with everything else. Then, with the arrival of someone from her past, tensions skyrocket between her and Flynn. And it’s mirrored within the city. After a string of grisly murders and abductions, Glynfyls is in turmoil, and if Flynn can’t find a way to get out from under his blackmailer’s thumb and set things right, their fairytale wedding being planned amidst the madness won’t end in a happily ever after.
In Split, the city of Glynfyls is burning and Flynn Scot is powerless to stop it. Now that his status is in question, the Assembly is calling for his head. The only thing keeping it on his shoulders is the commons rioting with the demand he be made Overlord.
Fluctuating between extremes, Kara’s talent deficiency is becoming critical. With her body failing and Flynn at the Assembly’s mercy, she has no choice but to take his seat and fight for her House. But battering herself against the tide of public censure threatens to drag her under.
So does the wave of Humanity Purists marching toward Glynfyls, and even if they survive the extremists, Titus’s army is following in their wake ready to harvest whatever is left.
In Overlord, chaos rules the city of Glynfyls, and all Flynn Scot can do is watch. With the hill frozen in the shadow of the coming Incursion, and the commons giving into a bacchanal madness, the city’s chances of survival are dire. His hands tied by mandates, in order to do what he knows is right and give them a fighting chance, Flynn will have to risk everything by doing wrong.
Meanwhile, Kara can’t hide her declining health. Unwilling to give in, or idly await her fate, she hatches a daring plan to help save the city, even if it ends up destroying her politically.
Because Titus’s army is marching closer to Glynfyls, and they’re not alone. With them comes a monster that threatens not only the city, but the entire Breaker hierarchy...
