Review: Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris

Definitely Dead is the 6th book in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series. Sookie has been notified that her wayward cousin Hadley has passed away – for the second time. Mr. Cataliades is a servant of Sophie Anne, the Queen of Louisiana and he has been sent to assist Sookie in getting Hadley’s affairs in order. The only problem is he shows up out of the blue expecting Sookie to be packed and ready to go. As it turns out, Mr. Cataliades had sent a messenger, his demon niece Gladiola, a week prior to let Sookie know that she needed o go with him to New Orleans. However, neither the messenger nor the message ever made it to Sookie. With the aid of his other demon niece Diantha, Mr. Cataliades soon discovers that Gladiola has met her demise when they find her body on Sookie’s property. While Mr. Cataliades and Diantha say their goodbyes to Gladiola, Sookie runs around town making the last minute arrangements to prepare for her absence. These arrangements include breaking her second date with the very handsome weretiger Quinn. After their first date was interrupted by an attacked from two new “bitten” werewolves, she was very much looking forward to this second attempt at a nice evening together.

Once in New Orleans, Sookie finds herself wrapped up in the middle of a mystery regarding the events leading to Hadley’s death. To top everything else off, Sophie Anne asks a personal favor of Sookie and although Sook doesn’t know it, if she doesn’t deliver, it could spell disaster for them all.

I loved this book! I love the idea of a relationship between Quinn and Sookie! Although he’s not a “normal” human, he smart, sexy, powerful and can still give her the simple things that her vampire love interests could not (i.e. – breakfast together, waking up next to each other, traditional marriage, afternoon shopping trips, etc.). Although this is not the biggest part of Definitely Dead, it is certainly my favorite. Much like Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Book # 5), this book has quite a few story lines running at once. However, unlike Dead as a Doornail, these story lines don’t become frustrating. Answers to questions come gradually all throughout the book instead of converging at the very end. Once again, Charlaine Harris has delivered everything you’ve come to know the Sookie Stackhouse series for – action, romance, mystery and intrigue all thrown together with the supernatural world. After this book, I have to admit, I think I have a crush on Quinn. I hope to see our beloved Sookie find happiness with him. Definitely Dead gets 5 stars!
