Can you live 28 years without discovering you’re a witch?
Lauren is downtown Chicago’s youngest elite realtor. She’s also a witch. She must be – the fetching spell for Witches’ Chat isn’t supposed to make mistakes. So says the woman who coded the spell, at least.
The tall, dark, and handsome guy sent to assess her is a witch too (and no, that doesn’t end the way you might think). What he finds in Lauren will change lives, mess with a perfectly good career, and require lots of ice cream therapy.
Boy are you all lucky! This review is a 3 for 1.
If you peruse Amazon you might have seen several of Ms Geary’s books moving up the contemporary fantasy charts. The first three of a projected nine book series are: 1. A Modern Witch, 2. A Hidden Witch and 3. A Reckless Witch.
Before I buy a book, I do a little sleuthing on Amazon. I read the top-rated reviews and then I read the two and one star reviews. If this doesn’t give me enough information, I turn to Goodreads and check out the rating there. I really couldn’t make up my mind to buy the first in the series so I “borrowed” the book from Amazon just to check it out.
I found it an easy read with not a lot of drama. Here’s the thing, that’s what I was in the MOOD to read. I hope some of you understand what I mean by that statement. I base what I read on what I’m in the mood for. If I’ve had a particularly upsetting day, I don’t want lots of drama in the book I’m reading. I want calm and basically happy.
Now, remember this is just MY opinion but I fell in love with the family of witches. I suspended belief that a four year old was acting out of character for a four year old witch. It didn’t bother me at all. The joy of family and support among the witches is what makes this series work for me. I will say I enjoyed books 2 and 3 more than book 1. Looking back on it I felt Ms Geary was laying all the groundwork for the future books with a few new characters added to the storyline in each book after the first. I liked that the some of the same characters are in all the books (at least so far). I like a lot of characters in my books. I like to see what’s going on in their lives with each additional book in the series.
Were the stories riveting? No. Could I put them down to go load the dishwasher? Yes. Did they make me feel good? YES
My rating for all three books is a solid 3 Stars. If I had stopped at the first book, I probably wouldn’t have reread it but since I didn’t, I will probably go back at some point and read them all again. (Something to make clear. Ms Geary was offering the next book book in the series if a reader wrote a review and contacted her via email. I borrowed the first book from Amazon and I bought books 2 and 3. I did not receive any free books. Just wanted there to be no question about this down the road <grin>).
