REVIEW by @_Shoe_Girl_ : The Quick and the Thread by Amanda Lee

When Marcy Singer opens an embroidery specialty shop in quaint Tallulah Falls, Oregon, she throws a soiree and a Stitch-In. Soon, Marcy’s sign- up sheet for embroidery classes fills up and everyone in town seems willing to raise a glass-or a needle-to support the newly-opened Seven Year Stitch.

Then Marcy finds the shop’s previous tenant dead in the store-room, a message scratched with a tapestry needle on the wall beside him. Now Marcy’s shop has become a crime scene, and she’s the prime suspect. She’ll have to find the killer before someone puts a final stitch in her.

Upon a recent trip to my local used book store, I noticed quite a few quirky titled books.  Apparently, they’re part of a whole new genre that I hadn’t yet discovered!  They’re called “cozy mysteries”.  I decided to grab a few and give them a try!  My luck….I grabbed five books and NONE of them were the 1st in their series.  LOL!  I had to wait until I could find “firsts”.  Finally, I found The Quick and the Thread, 1st in the Embroidery Mysteries.

Marcy leaves her boring accounting job to move to Oregon and open her dream business, an embroidery shop.  Upon buying a house and starting her business, she gets tangled up in quite the mess.  When she finds the previous tenant in her storeroom, she quickly becomes a suspect in his death.  Now, Marcy has to try and find out WHO is murdering people, since the local PD won’t let go of the thought that it is her.

I’m not typically a “mystery” lover.  Not sure why, exactly, but they just aren’t my cup of tea.  However, if this is what “cozy” mysteries area all about, then count me in!  The Quick and the Thread was very well written, and easy to read (I finished in one day)!  I loved the characters, and the town.  What I loved most is, I had my guesses as to “who dun it”, but I was VERY wrong.  That was cool.  I hate being able to figure out who it was halfway through the book (which, come to think of it, is prob why I don’t typically love mysteries).

I’ll be going back to the bookstore today to see if they have Stitch Me Deadly (the 2nd in the series)!  If not, off to Amazon I go!  😉

I give The Quick and the Thread 4 Heels!
