Review by @Fidget78 : 18 Seconds by George D. Shuman

Sherry Moore, a beautiful, blind psychic, has the extraordinary ability to ‘see’ the last eighteen seconds of a murder victim’s life by touching the corpse. She uses her gift to help others solve mysteries only she can tap into. Serial killer Earl Sykes never got caught for his vicious murders. Instead, it was a deadly auto accident that landed him in prison. Now, years later, he is free and hungry for revenge. Setting his sights on Lieutenant Kelly O’Shaunisy, the daughter of his captor, he returns to his seaside hometown of Wildwood, New Jersey – and to his gruesome, murderous ways. When Lieutenant O’Shaunisy begins to investigate the disappearance of young women from desolate areas of the boardwalk, she encounters frustrating dead-end clues and more deaths. Her desperation leads her to accept Sherry’s help, but not without consequences. Together, the two women set out to discover the identity of the killer and become entangled in a dangerous web that could cost them their lives.

Individuals without sight seem to have highly developed other senses.  However, Sherry Moore takes it one step further and can rewind the last 18 seconds of a dead person’s life if she can touch the body.

This is the first of four currently published suspense novels in the Sherry Moore Series.  This first novel introduces Sherry as she helps her co-star, Lt Kelly O’Shaunisy track the disappearances of young women from the boardwalk area in New Jersey.

I read all four of these novels several years ago.  I should say I immersed myself in Sherry’s world as written by Mr. Shuman.  He is outstanding writing novels with a female lead. However, the leads are only as good as the suspense portion of the novels and the suspense is spine tingling in all the novels.

I’m a so-so reader of suspense novels but this series is one of the best I’ve read.  It definitely made me a fan of Mr. Shuman. As a matter of fact, I became such a fan that I was wondering why there hadn’t been any new releases in this series for a while. I understand it takes awhile to write a novel, but I was getting impatient. It had been over two years for crying out loud!!

I couldn’t find any new information on his website but he did have a “contact me” tab.  What else could I do but send Mr. Shuman an email and ask him what was going on. I mean seriously, I was hooked on this series and the last book didn’t have a definite conclusion so…

He didn’t think I was was some weird stalker and sent me a very nice response.  Mr. Shuman’s publisher was no longer interested in the series due to the economic situation.  (I’m gonna go on a bit of a rant here.  This is why readers are flocking to indie authors.  Yes, not all indie authors are as good as others but my gosh, this series is amazing.)   I was assured he wasn’t done with the series yet, but had been working on another novel. Well, darn it, now I was gonna have to read the new novel when it comes out and wait for more Sherry Moore.  He is in the process of deciding whether to self-publish or not.

If you like a smart, somewhat flawed (and I’m not talking blind), character with lots of mystery, suspense and even a hint of romance, try this series.  The writing, characters, and storyline are excellent.

My rating:  4 Stars
