After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s – and to her best friend, Lissa. It is at long last graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives beyond the Academy’s iron gates to begin. But Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri, and she knows he’s out there, somewhere.
She failed to kill him when she had the chance. And now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and now he is hunting her. And this time he won’t rest until Rose joins him . . . forever.
As I get closer to the end of this series, each book shows me how much our characters have grown since the first installment. The relationships are more complex and when someone gets hurt, the heart ache…..well, it just sucks. Spirit Bound is no exception.
I started this book already knowing something that I accidentally found on Wikipedia. And I do mean accidentally. I hopped on there to grab the spelling of Dimitris’ last name and found out what happens to him by the end of this book. I was seriously afraid that this little nugget of information was going to completely ruin this book for me. Alas, that was not the case,
This installment follows Rose on yet another high flying adventure in which we see her go to unbelievable lengths on a glimmer of a hope to bring the end to the torment her heart is going through. Packed with non-stop momentum, Spirit Bound is once again making me utter the words ‘this is my favorite book in the series’. As I said in a previous review in this series, the thing I love about this series is that each book just gets better and better.
The character development in this series has also been somewhat of a surprise. Our characters really don’t grown much in the first 2 books. However, over the last three, they have progressed by leaps and bounds. There understanding of the world around them has gone from the selfish outlook of a teenager to the self sacrificing outlook of a grown up. They’ve all had to experience loss and a degree of heart ache to get there but it has been for the better in the end.
Rose still has her moments that border line on temper tantrums but they have passionate reasons behind them instead of her just throwing a fit. She’s the only one with enough balls to stand up for what she believes in and I love that about this character.
Lissa has turned into quite an awe inspiring character as well. I would love to see her just say what’s on her mind a bit more though. She’s still a little too meek for my liking. It would be good to see her yell or chuck a vase at someone’s head when they piss her off. Well, maybe not that far but you know what I mean.
Adrian, like a nasty green fungus, has grown on me. I really wasn’t sure whether or not I liked this character and the more and more we get of him, the more and more I become torn as to who I would like to see Rose end up with at the end.
That brings me to Dimitri. Don’t get me wrong (translastion = don’t send me hate mail over what I am about to say), I love Dimitri’s character. He’s a bad ass. A raging bad ass. BUT…..by the end of this book, I badly wanted to choke the hell out of Dimitri. Oh…..come……ON!!!!!!!!!! SUCK IT UP!! I will not say any more about the situation because it will ruin plot lines but once you read it, you will totally get what I am talking about. I am still fighting the urge to go find someone that looks like him and just slap the crap out of them (because this would make me feel a *little* better).
On a dorky note, this book takes us on a little trip to a place that I have been (last August, to be exact) and whenever a book’s character goes to a place that I have been, I experience a little bout of geeker joy because I can picture EXACTLY what they’re talking about. It’s kind of fun! *wink wink*
Oh!!! And there’s a rather *taboo* moment in this book that is a little shocking and kind of makes you feel a little proud and a little shameful.
Ok. I am going to stop now because I just want to start babbling about a bunch of things that happen and it’ll ruin the book. Read it. *smiles*
Overall, I am giving Spirit Bound 5 stars. Very well written. Complex plot lines and great character development. Alright, I am off. I have already started the audio book for the 6th book. *wink wink*
