REVIEW by Heather: Barefoot in the Sand by Roxanne St. Claire (@_Shoe_Girl_ , @roxannestclaire)

When all you hold dear is taken away . . .
When a hurricane roars through Lacey Armstrong’s home on the coast of Barefoot Bay, she decides all that remains in the rubble is opportunity. A new hotel is just what Mimosa Key needs, and Lacey and her teenage daughter are due for a fresh start. And nothing, especially not a hot, younger architect, is going to distract Lacey from finally making her dreams a reality.
A second chance is the only thing you have left.
Love has already cost Clay Walker everything. And if he’s going to have any chance of picking up the pieces of his life, he needs the job as Lacey Armstrong’s architect. What’s not in the plans is falling for the headstrong beauty. Her vision of the future is more appealing than anything he could have ever drafted for himself. Will Clay’s designs on Lacey’s heart be more than she can handle, or will she trust him to build something that will last forever?

I had never read, or even heard of Roxanne St. Claire before this book.  I am now a fan!
After a devastating hurricane that Lacey survives with her daughter by getting in a bathtub with only mattress covering them, Lacey decides to use the opportunity that the hurricane provided to make her dream come true!  In the process, she meets Clay, gets support from her BFFs, deals with her selfish teenage daughter, her uber-hard-to-please mother, and some….colorful “townies”.
I don’t really think I can find anything in this book that I didn’t like.  Sure, some of the characters got on my nerves at times, but hey….that is REALISTIC.  I don’t have ANY friend/family member that has NEVER gotten on my nerves.  There were so many different relationships in this story, that I was wondering how they were all going to get wrapped up in one book, so I was VERY happy when I realized that this is the first book in a series (yes, I know it says “series” on the cover, however, I didn’t notice that when I started reading) and I am anxious to hear the stories of Jocelyn, Tessa, & Zoe (Lacey’s best friends)!
I think this book will appeal to a lot of audiences…those who like romance, those who like “quick, easy, beach reads”, those who like strong friendships, etc.  While I wouldn’t quite classify this as a “small town” book, I do think readers of “small town” novels will enjoy it.  While this isn’t a “MUST READ ASAP”, it is definitely a must read!!  If Roxanne’s other books keep on pace like this, she could quickly become one of my “go to” authors!
