REVIEW by Heather: Butterfly by Kathryn Harvey (@_Shoe_girl)

Above an exclusive men’s store on Rodeo Drive there is a private club called Butterfly, where women are free to act out their secret erotic fantasies. Only the most beautiful and powerful women in Beverly Hills are invited to join: Jessica, a lawyer who longs for the days when men were men, and women dressed to please them; Trudie, a builder who wants a man who will challenge her—all of her—with no holds barred; and Linda, a surgeon, who uses masks to unmask the desires she hides even from herself.

But the most mysterious of them all is the woman who created Butterfly. She has changed her name, her accent, even her face to hide her true identity. And now she is about to reveal everything to realize the dream that has driven her since childhood—the secret obsession that will carry her beyond ecstasy, or destroy her and everyone around her.

First off, I’ll say Butterfly was categorized as “erotica” on Goodreads, so I went into it with certain expectations.  They quickly went out the window, as I wouldn’t consider anything about it to be erotica.

Linda, Trudie, and Jessica all have different relationship issues.  Linda is a highly regarded surgeon but has had a traumatic event in her past that keeps her from being able to truly “let go” and have a successful, intimate relationship with a man.  Trudie is a woman working in a male dominated field, and is generally just seen as either “one of the guys”, or thought to be a lesbian when really, she wants to do her job, do it well AND be a woman with a happy, healthy, relationship…with a man.  Jessica is in an oppressive, unhappy marriage.  She’s a smart, successful lawyer who’s husband is embarrassed by her clients.  He holds sex over her head, and uses it as a punishment/reward.

All three ladies end up members of Butterfly; a top secret, exclusive club where beautiful, successful women can go and have THEIR fantasies brought to life.  One thing they all have in common….they all wonder at some point, iswho owns/runs Butterfly?  Who has made it possible for their fantasies to come to life?

Butterfly’s mysterious owner has a past of her own.  She has been through it all, emotionally and physically.  One day, she finally reaches her limit and vows total, complete revenge.  She accomplishes that, and then some!

Butterfly is a TOTAL “Girl Power”, “Women’s Empowerment”, whatever you wish to call it, book!  I seriously put this on the must read list for women who enjoy ALL genres!  I’ve seen other reviews giving Butterfly 2 stars, saying that the book is dated, etc.  Yes, it was originally published years ago, however, this is a case of varying tastes.  I stand by my “5 Heel” rating.  😉

I give Butterfly 5 Heels!
