Commissioned at the highest level of the U.S. government, the fighting team known as Taskforce operates outside the law. Pike Logan was the most successful operator on the Taskforce until tragedy permanently altered his outlook. Pike knows what the rest of the country might not want to admit: the real threat is one or two men in possession of a powerful weapon. Buried in a stack of intercepted chatter is evidence of two such men-their attack only days away. It is their bad luck that they’re about to cross paths with Pike Logan…
Pike Logan is an “Army of One” and author, Brad Taylor, draws from his experience in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – Delta (Delta Force) to create this very believable, very badass character. Pike’s enemies fear him and his friends love him. He is on top of the world, doing what he love’s most, killing bad guys, until tragedy strikes causing him to lose faith in himself and eventually being forced to leave the Taskforce.
Hitting rock bottom, Pike is a mess with no way out and nowhere to go. But he does not want out. He blames himself and is unable to break free from the demons that have infested his mind. Then in a twist of fate, he meets someone who helps him find his way.
This is one of the best books I have read in the action/thriller genre. Taylor creates very believable characters and throughout the story, he gets inside their head and explains to the reader not only what motivates them but also what they are thinking. He does this in detail without sacrificing speed and action. There is very little slack time in the story. It is mostly action from beginning to end. However, the very best part of the story is all of the twists and turns Taylor weaves to keep us off balance. The technical parts of the book – weapons, equipment and tactics – are clearly from someone who knows, and with his background, this is to be expected.
Hands down, I give One Rough Man five rifles. His writing is superb, action is non-stop and his technical ability is top notch!
