Avon Affair

THE AVON AFFAIR IS A 14-DAY AVON BOOKS REVIEW EVENT
ORGANIZED AND HOSTED BY CURRENT AND ALUMNI MEMBERS OF
THE AVON ADDICTS.

Wanted: Bride. Must love children. Mortals need not apply.

Carlos Panterra is looking for a mate, a woman who will love and care for the young orphans he’s recently taken under his wing (or paw, as the case may be). When the shape shifter spies the beautiful Caitlyn, it’s like sunshine amidst the darkness. At last, he’s found the perfect woman, except . . .

Caitlyn Whelan is mortal. Worse, her father is the head of a CIA agency bent on hunting the undead. Still, Caitlyn knows that Carlos is the man for her, shape shifter or not. So she jumps at the chance when her sister offers her a job to work with him, determined to show Carlos their attraction is more than just animal magnetism. But danger lurks in the night, and their unleashed, untamed passion might just get them both killed . . .

The Love at Stake series books are kind of like the romantic comedies of vampire books, only with some violence and a few deaths thrown in the mix. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Warning..mild spoilers ahead.
Caitlyn Whelan just lost her government job and has no idea what she is going to do with her life. Out of the blue, she hears from her sister-the one she thought was in witness protection. It’s an invitation to her sister Shanna’s sons birthday party. So of course she goes, all the while wondering who throws a party for a child at 9 at night? The first person she notices is Carlos. Love at first sight? Oh yeah. And is it mutual? Oh yeah.  Cait has no idea she has just entered into a supernatural world where nothing is quite what it seems. Her sister’s husband is a vampire. And Carlos? Oh he’s just a shape shifter. To say she is pretty freaked is an understatement, but due to her own strange psychic abilities, she is able to deal with it. Before she knows it, she is totally immersed in this world and working with Carlos.
The book takes off once the duo go to Thailand to hunt for a mate for Carlos. Due to a shortage of his type of shifter, Thailand is his last hope for him to find a mate and have children that are like him.. Put two characters that are irresistible  to each other together on a long trip and fireworks are bound to happen. The author does know how to write romance. Normally I am not a fan of books that take place in jungles and yes I have read more then my share of these. But this book was really very entertaining and the jungle part was not the entire focus as is sometimes the case.  The characters are fun, especially the shifters. This story is one big adventure with lots of romance thrown in. It is part of a series but it really doesn’t matter much.  I give it 4 stars and I can honestly say I enjoyed it.
