Yesterday, I reviewed the first two books in the Ironskin series, and today, on its release day, we are looking at Silverblind.
First, I dont think I made it very clear in yesterday’s review, but these series are easily standalone novels. Although I chose to read the other books first, it wasn’t necessary. I could have just as easily read this one all on its own. That being said, I am glad I read all three. Although they are tied together, each book has its own star and own story.
In Silverblind, Dorie has taken the spotlight as leading lady. Dorie was the part fey step daughter of Jane (the leading lady in the first Ironskin book, Ironskin) We are fast-forwarded ten years from the last book and Dorie and Tam are all grown up. Out of the three books, I think Dorie is my favorite. There’s just something quirky about her that I love. She’s not perfect and that’s perfectly okay.
As with the two previous books in the series, Silverblind is very well written. The plot is fast paced and reads smoothly (I read the entire book in an evening). The writing is solid and nothing feels choppy.
There are a few things I loved about this book that I wish I could talk about, but if I were to get into them, I really feel it would spoil too much. Instead, I will just I highly recommend this book, for sure!
Now, I did hear a nasty rumor somewhere on the interwebz that said Silverblind is the last book in this series. That is kind of sad and my little fangirl heart hopes it’s not the end.
The Ironskin series as a whole has some great parallels and lessons for gender equality and racism. This is a series I will definitely let my daughter read when she gets a little older and can understand the subtext. Ā
Also, as a side note, how gorgeous are those covers??? Ā They remind me a lot of the artwork gracing the covers of the Sentinels of New Orleans series by Suzanne Johnson. Ā
