The third installment of Lisa Kessler’s Moonlight series was a must read for me, as I really enjoyed the first two. Moonlight, the first in the series, is still my favorite of all three, and introduced us to a werewolf clan based in Reno. It also introduced us to Nero, an organization that experiments on shifters with no thought to how it effects the shifter. If the shifter dies, it’s no big deal for them, they just make another one. Not one of your happier organizations to say the least.

This is Nadya and Gareth’s story. Nadya was a psychic human, whose sister, Sasha, is a jaguar shifter, and former agent of Nero. When Nadya is bitten by a DNA corrupted by Nero, shifter wolf, she comes under a death sentence. Shortly after, Nadya and Gareth realize they are mates. What should have been a wonderful time in both their lives, instead becomes a time of pain and of course sorrow. Since Gareth recently lost his twin, and before that both his parents, he wants nothing to do with being mated to a dying mate. So he takes off to start a new life in another state. It doesn’t take him long to realize his mistake in trying to ignore the mate bond, not something a shifter can actually do for long.

I really enjoyed the characters of Nadya and Gareth, Nadya in particular. As someone who at twenty four has been handed a death sentence, she handles it with grace, and an almost joie de vivre outlook on life. Gareth is the silent brooding type, the bad boy, motorcycle riding type, but he does get to rise above this while helping Nadya to live what time she has left. The other characters were all good too, and have been featured in previous books-one of my favorite parts of reading series books. The villains of course are the agents of Nero, and the Nero physician that has his own reasons for treating Nadya.

For the most part, I did enjoy this book. I thought it was a well written addition to the series. Not quite as much action this time around, but I think that was due to the failing health of Nadya,and the focus of the story being on that. Nero was still causing life and death moments, but not quite as much as usual. I think there could have been more world building concerning Gareth’s American Indian culture. We get some, but I always like more world building as a series progresses. But still, I was happy with what Ms. Kessler did do with this. More would have made it even better.

So we have questions to answer in this book. Will Nadya find a cure, and will there be a happy ever after for these two?

I would recommend this book to all adult paranormal romance readers.
