REVIEW by Trish: Fat Jimmy and the Blind Ballerina by Eddie Owens

This is the story of one young man’s desire for comedy fame: a tale of ambition and humiliation on the way to the top.

Fat Jimmy is a cynical, young comedian and writer, who desperately wants to make it to the big time. He wants it all and he wants it now.

Fat Jimmy loves women; he loves booze and he loves comedy. He is sweary and controversial, but always funny and always memorable.

Trish’s Review

Fat Jimmy is a comedian who’s decided the only way to success is by getting on TV. Reality, talk show, random interview, doesn’t matter, he wants in.

This was quite a crazy read. All of it narrated in a strong Scottish accent along with all the slang, which I didn’t always get and often had to look up. It’s almost like a memoir, sometimes flitting from a scene to a memory and then on to another scene. In fact, I really wasn’t sure I liked it at first, but it did grow on me.

Fat Jimmy is crude and rude, and you’re in his head the whole time. His unfiltered opinions are right there in your face, and they are often unkind, if not downright offensive. But, I will say this. This was one well-developed character. He felt real, and even with all his flaws, he was always wholeheartedly unrepentant.

In the end, I found I did like the story. I think folks who are looking for something humorous, but edgy, might dig it.
