REVIEW by Trish: Of Triton (The Syrena Legacy #2) by Anna Banks (@ByAnnaBanks)

Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm. Syrena law states all Half-Breeds should be put to death.

As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance in the Syrena world turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never known?

Once again, Anna Banks infuses Emma and Galen’s points of view with humor, intrigue, and waves of romance.

Trish’s Review

This is an excellent sequel.

What I like most is that this isn’t just a straight up love story. There’s real meat to it. The conflict between the Poseidon and Triton kingdoms, the revelation of Emma’s mother’s true identity, Emma’s decision between staying safe and doing what’s best for the Syrena and her mother, all of these make it very hard to put this down.

I love that this story doesn’t feel like a middle book. The author does a great job of building everything up, and it was in this one that I started picking up on elements of a greater mystery.

Overall, I loved this book. Highly recommended to folks who enjoy modern fantasies, links to mythology, and romance.

The audio performance continued to be fantastic, and I was happy that it was the same narrator as from book one, providing continuity.

About Anna Banks

Anna Banks is a young adult author whose primary goal is to entertain smart, funny gals like herself. You can expect her works to be centered around a love story, freckled with humor, and seasoned with sarcasm.

Anna grew up in a small town called Niceville (yes, really) in the Florida Panhandle. She now lives with her husband and daughter close to her hometown. The youngest of seven children, she was spoiled beyond comprehension growing up. Before she started writing, Anna worked as a banker and a waitress. She loves old movies, fried chicken, and Simon Cowell, but loathes exercise, licorice, and haters.

She also spews sarcastic, romantic fiction under pen name Anna Scarlett.
