Jen’s Review
LORD OF CHANCE drops two unlikely types of people in a whirlwind of comic situations. In this story, we see a lord from a respectable family, but who himself is not really a respectable member of society. He always seems to have problems paying his debts, even when Lady Luck decides to intervene on his behalf. In the book, he says something to the effect of “a gamblers life isn’t for everyone, with big wins come even greater losses at times.” But he always seem to take the losses in stride, except for the first time he meets his soulmate Charlotte, the daughter of a courtesan.
Charlotte is a young woman who wants nothing more than to meet her father and to have a respectable life. As the old saying goes, be careful for what you wish for because you might just regret it. In her case, it was a different result, although it doesn’t feel that way at first. Her dream to begin a new life for herself in Scotland forces her to try to hide or erase her old life. But as we all know, we can’t outrun our past. Our past is what makes us who we are. I guess, in a way, she did understand that and appreciated all that her mother did was for her to put food on the table and keep a roof over her head. Whether she is proud of it or not, her past is what made her the person she is now—a cautious but sweet girl trying to get a life she deserves.
LORD OF CHANCE is a story of the accidental dominos that must get knocked over for these two to see that they just might be what the other one was looking for. Readers into witty regency romance will love this book
