Review: Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris

Dead in the Family is the 10th installment in the Sookie Stackhouse series. When Claudine’s triplet, Claude, appears at her doorstep, Sookie reluctantly allows him to move in. The government threatens two-natures with mandatory registration, and tensions run high in the local Were pack. Then Eric’s maker, a Roman named Appius Livius Ocella, arrives without warning, bringing along Alexei Romanov, whom he rescued from the Bolsheviks and turned into a vampire.

If I had one word to describe this Dead in the Family, I would have to say ‘intense’. INTENSE. The presence of Ocella and Alexei drives tension level through the roof on this one! With the blood bond intact, Sookie feels Eric’s every emotion and judging by his reaction to them being there, she can plainly see that they are t-r-o-u-b-l-e.

My #1 concern here is the stress that the pair are putting on Sookie and Eric’s relationship. My big disappointment in this book is Sookie’s reaction toward Eric over his lack of availability. I felt that she went a little too hard on him. However, that was the same reason she broke it off with Quinn so why am I surprised? I found myself actually getting angry with Sookie throughout this book. By the end I was happy again. Overall, I give this book 4.75 stars!
