REVIEW by @Fidget78 : Darkest Caress by Kaylea Cross – Release Date 4/23/12 (@kayleacross)

Two-hundred-year-old Daegan Blackwell is one of the last remaining Empowered, an ancient magical race. Daegan’s duty is to lead and protect his remaining Brethren in the coming war foretold by prophecy. The last thing he expects is to meet the one woman who will either save or destroy him—his destined mate.
Fiercely independent Realtor Olivia Farrell believes darkly handsome Daegan is simply a prospective client. Until she’s attacked by a man with a strange aura—and Daegan fights him off, taking away her pain with just his touch. At first, Olivia refuses to believe she’s part of a magical race, yet mounting evidence and her powerful chemistry with Daegan are too strong to deny.
But as Daegan’s partner, Olivia becomes a target in the battle between good and evil that threatens her life, as well as the very existence of the Empowered. And the only one who can save her is the man claiming to be her destiny…
An intriguing new voice in Urban Fantasy.
Yeah, yeah, I know, the genre is getting flooded and it’s hard to pick and choose the really good books from the not so good ones.  I really think you should take a chance on this novel, Darkest Caress by Kaylea Cross.
It’s somewhat of a different storyline and extremely well written.  Darkest Caress is in the good versus evil category but there’s not a whole bunch of good guys at this point.  The “lost ones” need to be found and taught about their heritage to help in the upcoming war.  The heroine, Olivia Farrell, is the first of the lost to be found accidentally by the leader of the Empowered, Daegan Blackwell.  The sparks fly from there.  The interplay between Liv and Daegan is steamy and pretty doggone hot.
The writing is excellent, the storyline different and interesting.  This is the first of a planned series, I think.  Ms Cross isn’t sure she will continue at this point.  Let’s give her a reason to finish it out.  She has written several other works in the military romantic suspense genre and seems to have a good following of those novels.  At present I’ve not read any of those novels but the idea hits me in a weak place.  After spending 20 years in the Air Force, I want to see how she does with her other writings.  Ms Cross is very adept at penning the alpha male but the best part, the female lead ISN’T depicted as a helpless, save me type.  In Darkest Caress, Liv can more than hold her own without being a bi*ch.  She’s very intelligent and thinks things through before jumping into the unknown.
I sincerely hope, Ms Cross continues with this series because the way she left Darkest Caress calls out for Cade’s story!!
