You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide.
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her. But when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head — wanted: dead or half-alive — means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever and that Bones won’t let her get away again.
Hello. My name is Jena Gregoire and I am a vampire/urban-fantasy/romance addict. I actually did really good for a while. I branched out to other genres. I made a conscious decision every minute of every day to read something non-vamp and I really was do very good. Then I have Jeaniene Frost a try. First it was stand alone novels. I thought It’s no big deal. I’m not relapsing. I can walk away at any time. Then I picked up the Night Huntress series. Now I am right back to where I was prior to getting clean. If I’m not reading about Cat and Bones, I am listening to the audio book where I left off. I fall asleep reading Cat and Bones. I dream about Cat and Bones. I wake up and my first thought is when can I get my next fix???? I’m a lost cause. I am hopelessly addicted……AND I REGRET NOTHING, DAMMIT!!!
Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system….
This was another excellent installment in this series. As much as I enjoy the stand alone format of the Night Huntress World series, I am enjoy the Night Huntress Series so much more. One of my favorite things about reading a series is falling in love (or in hate, as the case may be) with the characters you’re following. You develop a relationship with them. You get to know them. You experience emotion with them. You feel their happiness. You feel their sadness. You go through all of these up and downs with them and become invested in the story. Cat and Bones are wonderful characters to become enamored with. They have this amazing chemistry on the page and are quickly becoming one of my favorite couples to read.
At the end of Halfway to the Grave (book one in the Night Huntress series), a huge event happens that left me rather stunned. My quest to keep my review spoiler free kept me from going into any sort of detail about it but I can say that it leaves you a little heart broken wondering how the story can possibly continue on.
One Foot in the Grave picks up four years after the events of that last chapter in book one. I had a little bit of trouble adjusting to the change in time only because I somehow missed that we had jumped forward by four years. However, it didn’t take me long to grasp it. Then I spent the next few chapters waiting with bated breath for what I knew to be an inevitable event and the book didn’t disappoint.
This installment has a much more intense plot. Things are a little darker. Cat is a Grade A bad ass and yet another fictional character that I now hold a serious lime green envy for now. She’s just awesome.
One Foot in the Grave is incredibly fast paced. I blew through this entire book in one day and that was not reading solidly though the whole day. The plot of this series is one big long story arc with each book holding it’s own plot. Although the series could be read as stand alone novels, I wouldn’t recommend it. You’d seriously be missing out on some juicy details.
Overall, I am giving One Foot in the Grave a solid 5 stars. I have already started book three and have already purchased book four.

Another series we both love!! 😀 I agree with what you said too! Cat is just one of those characters who you love and root for, and I love her relationship with Bones even more!
I won’t spoil you for the rest of the series other to say…IT IS SO GOOD! Hope you enjoy books 3, 4 and 5!
I am totally loving the series. Prior to discovering Jeaniene Frost, I wouldn’t have been caught dead reading anything classified as a romance novel. lol I give her 100% credit in getting me hooked. Her writing is proof that you can read a romance and still find an amazing story line with great characters mixed with some serious badassery. 🙂
