After the death of her parents, Kathleen Turner leaves small town life for Indianapolis to pursue her dreams the best she can. Young and alone in the world, she works as a lowly Runner at the prestigious law firm of Gage, Kirk and Trent and bartends at night to make ends meet. Her ignominious introduction to Blane Kirk, partner in the firm and local playboy, has her diving under desks to avoid him. Unfortunately, when her friend is murdered and attempts are made on her own life she doesn’t know where to turn – except to Blane.
Kathleen’s journey begins in the halls of justice where she finds not everyone is as they seem and what you don’t know can get you killed. Though a far cry from her Midwestern upbringing, she poses as a prostitute in the intriguing circles of high-priced escort services in a reckless bid to uncover the murderer. Little does she know that the murder of her friend was only a small part in a high-tech plan to rig an online election. She must race against the clock in a desperate ploy to sabotage the scheme in a dangerous game of political espionage.
In No Turning Back, Kathleen struggles to bring a killer to justice, even if it may be the man with whom she’s falling in love.
Tiffany A. Snow had me hooked with the first sentence and there was ‘No Turning Back’ for me. When Kathleen has a rather embarrassing moment with a sexy, young partner at her law firm, I have to read on. Yes, have to.
Kathleen is a very relatable character, she faces awkwardness, and struggles that all of us have gone through at some point or another. She has two jobs, one at Gage, Kirk, and Trent, a prestigious law firm in Indianapolis where she must endure a rude boss on a daily basis, and one as a bartender at The Drop, to pay the bills.
The men of the book, Blane and Kade are equally sexy, dark and mysterious, successful, and intelligent and I find myself torn between the two. One minute I think I’m on board with one, then he does something that leaves me saying “wth?” while my loyalty shifts to the opposite man. Then later, he redeems himself and I’m on board again. Seriously, picking between these two is like picking which sock fits the best, right or left.
This book was addictive, and had me laughing out loud many times. I immediately downloaded the second in the series, ‘Turn To Me,’ anxious to read more.
As always, here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“He was no more likely to tackle a bad guy than he would be to drop kick puppies.”
“Knowledge is power, or so School House Rock had always taught me.”
“I told my imagination to shut the hell up.”
“If I wanted you dead, you’d be dead.”
“You can come willingly or unwillingly, but like it or not, you’re coming with me.”
“Keep looking at me like that and I won’t be held responsible for my actions.”
“I can be quite demanding, and I don’t share.”
“I wouldn’t let him come over here if I were you.”
“And the kitty has claws.”
“You’re a shit load of trouble.”
“Have I mentioned what a pain in the ass you are?”
I give No Turning Back 5 stars!
