REVIEW by Dolly: Death’s Rival (Jane Yellowrock #5 ) by Faith Hunter (@hunterfaith , @fidget78)

Jane Yellowrock is a shapeshifting skinwalker you don’t want to cross—especially if you’re one of the undead…

For a vampire killer like Jane, having Leo Pellisier as a boss took some getting used to. But now, someone is out to take his place as Master Vampire of the city of New Orleans, and is not afraid to go through Jane to do it. After an attack that’s tantamount to a war declaration, Leo knows his rival is both powerful and vicious, but Leo’s not about to run scared. After all, he has Jane. But then, a plague strikes, one that takes down vampires and makes their masters easy prey.

Now, to uncover the identity of the vamp who wants Leo’s territory, and to find the cause of the vamp-plague, Jane will have to go to extremes…and maybe even to war.

OH MY GOSH!!

I’ve enjoyed every novel in Ms Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series but this just might be my favorite. Several in this series have kept me reading way past my bedtime, but I honestly couldn’t put Death’s Curse down. Just when I thought I would reach a good stopping point, Bam. I had to keep going.

I actually read Death’s Curse twice before writing this review. The first time through, I was so psyched I couldn’t put two sentences together, never mind a complete review.  As it is, I can’t say too much or I will surely spoil the story for those who haven’t read it yet. However, there is plenty of Bruiser in this novel and if you’re like me, there is never enough Bruiser. We are also introduced to some new characters that will hopefully continue into the rest of the series. Jane actually starts putting together a team of her own.

We, also, are treated to more of Jane’s background. It explains much about her life choices and working for the vamps. There’s even get a glimpse of Rick and his new life. He and Jane are still drawn together but due to his infection with the “were virus” they can’t be together.  It’s too dangerous as Jane might become infected. It leaves you wondering if Ms Hunter will find a way to work this out.

There are some heart rending surprises for both Jane and “Beast”. Oh my!

As usual, Ms Hunter provides a complete story. Well-rounded characters, fantastic world building and a wonderful flow. Absolutely waiting impatiently for Jane’s next adventure.

My Rating:  4.50 Stars
