RELEASE DAY REVIEW by Lorna: Missing You by Harlan Coben (@HarlanCoben, @Mollykatie112)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a heart-pounding thriller about the ties we have to our past…and the lies that bind us together.
It’s a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD Detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode, as emotions she’s ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé Jeff, the man who shattered her heart—and who she hasn’t seen in 18 years.
Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her. But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable.
As the body count mounts and Kat’s hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she ever loved—her former fiancé, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained. With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before, and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there.

Oh how I love getting a new Harlan Coben book. I don’t care if it’s a Myron Bolitar book or a stand alone, it doesn’t matter. They are all just so so good. I got this book yesterday from Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review. And yes I have already read it. I could barely put it down for even a minute! So yeah that was my day today. This book.
Kat is a detective for the NYPD. Her best friend signs her up on a dating website. Kat has never gotten over the break up with the love of her life eighteen years before, so when she goes on the site and sees her former fiance she of course messages him. She had not seen him or heard from him in all that time. This simple act puts Kat right in the middle of a huge mystery and ultimately the case of a lifetime. Add to that the fact that Kat is still actively pursuing the murder of her police officer, father from almost twenty years before, and this book becomes a full on, top notch thriller.
It was just so readable. And addictive. I loved the characters and the premise was super exciting. Like I said I couldn’t stop reading. It’s one of those that keeps you turning pages because you HAVE to know what’s going to happen next. Just when you think you know what’s going on for sure, then more happens to completely confuse you again. I did figure a few things out but even those things had more to it then I could even begin to guess.
I just love a good thriller, and when it’s one by Harlan Coben, you know you have a winner on your hands before you read the first page. Do I sound like a fangirl? I am completely a fangirl of Mr. Coben and admit it readily! You get a lot of entertainment for your money with this book-great writing, great character development and an exciting story. I honestly have nothing bad to say about this book.
I would recommend this book to all people that love a good mystery with lots of suspense, and of course all of Mr. Coben’s many fans. I guarantee you will not regret it!
