RELEASE DAY REVIEW by Lorna: The Burning Girl (The Whispers Short Story#2) by Lisa Unger (@lisaunger , @Mollykatie112)

The Burning GirlFrom New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger comes the second of three stories in an e-novella about a psychic medium and the strange secrets she begins to uncover–for better or for worse.
Ten years after Eloise Montgomery discovers her psychic abilities, she is a full-fledged working psychic, with a partner and a business. Now, in The Burning Girl, she’s discovering some disturbing things: secrets about her genealogy that are, perhaps, best left in the past; that her granddaughter Finley has powers of her own; and that not all of Eloise’s visitors actually want to be helped. Some of them are just looking for trouble…
Writing with the same taut prose that earned her critical acclaim for her explosive thriller Beautiful Lies, Lisa Unger delivers a spellbinding story that will leave you wanting more.

Lisa Unger can’t be beat for her well written, and intense suspense novels. This is the second in her Hollows short story series. I really enjoyed the first one, so I pretty much immediately read the second.
In the first story, we met Eloise and her youngest daughter, Emily, on the day that changes their lives forever. After a devastating accident takes the lives of Eloise’s husband, and eldest teenage daughter, Eloise starts experiencing psychic visions, and they are real.
It’s fourteen years later, and Eloise is now pretty famous, not only for her visions, but for her success in helping with finding people-both alive, and dead. She has partnered with the police detective, now private investigator, Ray, that she helped in the first story. They are a couple of sorts, not quite a love story, because she has never gotten over her husband-and knows she never will. She starts having visitations from a little girl, one with hair that’s on fire.
These stories get better as you go, although I loved the first one as well. You know that anything Lisa Unger writes, is going to be a good read, and this was no exception. Her characters are well written, as is the story itself. Since it’s a short story, it is, of course, a very fast read, although I think this one is a bit longer then the first.
I would recommend this to paranormal mystery fans ages 16 plus. I will be waiting pretty impatiently for the third story, as I am very invested in the story line now.
