A suspense-driven New Adult romance novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author of Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water.
Luke Boone doesn’t know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it—the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he’s finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set—one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it’s not exactly legal, Luke’s never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.
Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game—at only twenty-six years old, she’s one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington, DC, major crime unit, and she’s just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the West coast’s most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she’ll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year-old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle’s footsteps.
As Clara drifts deeper into the luxurious lifestyle of Rain, and further into the arms of her very attractive and charming target, the lines between right and wrong start to blur, making her wonder if she’ll be able to leave it all behind. Or if she’ll even want to.

K.A. Tucker is one my main go to authors when I want to read contemporary romance. I have pretty much read everything she is written, with only two exceptions-the last two in her paranormal series, which I have every intention of reading someday. Each of her books have always been page turners for me, so when I found this book on Net Galley, I didn’t hesitate to ask for it, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
We first met Luke in Burying Water, book one in this series. He works in his uncle’s garage, and is just now becoming involved in his uncle’s international car theft ring. Clara is a undercover officer that gets picked by the F.B.I. to infiltrate the theft ring by dating Luke. She’s ambitious and wants nothing else but to get the scum that are killing, or badly injuring people for their vehicles. She is hoping to be asked to join the bureau after the case wraps up. Of course nothing is that simple. Luke has no idea that people are being hurt or worse, and only knows he wants to work with his uncle, who was like a father to him. When he meets Clara,(undercover name, Rain) he falls hard for the first time in his life. And just to make it even more interesting, Rain falls for him.
I spent the better part of this book waiting for Luke to find out who Rain was. Consequently, I was on the edge of my seat while reading for most of the book. Wearing a wire, and falling in love with the subject of your investigation was scary for Rain, and enough to make any reader chew their nails-which I don’t even do! So I was pretty much nervous for Rain throughout the book. But I was also, intrigued with the story line, and completely entranced with the secret romance.
Ms. Tucker wrote a book with a unique(at least to me) premise, a good romance, and mostly likable characters. Of course there are villains, Russian mobsters, and others as well. She brings back the characters from Burying Water at one point, and I loved catching up with those characters as well.
You don’t have to read Burying Water to enjoy this read, but I think it would be a good idea,as it might make more sense in the long run, while reading this book. And besides, Burying Water was a wonderful read, and shouldn’t be missed. I promise you, you will be on the edge of your chair for that one as well.
I would recommend this book to adult fans of contemporary romance, ones with a side of suspense at times.
