Indy Savage, cop’s daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy’s employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicting matters, Lee has decided he’s interested, Indy’s decided she’s not. But she can’t seem to keep Lee out of her life when she’s repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she’s finding dead bodies).
Indy’s best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee’s challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

The title Rock Chick conjures up visions of rock bands and groupies for me. So even though I like rocker books, I didn’t want to read about groupies. I kept seeing this on so many peoples favorite book lists, so I bought the book and there it stayed on my tbr pile for the past seven months. I picked it up finally, and literally couldn’t put it down. It has absolutely nothing to do with groupies or even rockers-except extremely loosely.
India Savage is a cops daughter, owns her own inherited used bookstore, and loves rock music, rockstars, and concerts. When she and one of her employees get shot at one night, she gets caught up in a crazy ride involving stolen diamonds, tons of different bad guys, kidnapping(both hers, and others)getting beat up on, and pretty much fighting for her life at times-as in several times. India grew up with a wonderful best friend named Ally. Ally has two brothers, Hank, a policeman, and Liam, a highly dangerous security expert. India has been in love with Liam since she was little, but Liam has never seemed interested in her at all. So ten years ago when he told her that he thought of her as another little sister, she gave up, and spent the ensuing years trying(and failing) to ignore him. When Ally tricks her and she ends up sleeping in his bed, everything changes when he comes home and finds her there.
This story was one of those fast paced reads that has so much happening that you don’t want to put it down. Lots of great side characters with big personalities, keep this book fun and interesting, even when there is a down time from all the action-which wasn’t often. Add in sexual chemistry that is off the charts between India and Liam, and you end up with a well written and super exciting book that keeps you reading pretty much until it’s done. And no this wasn’t one of those books where the main characters fall into bed together immediately. It happens, but it takes awhile, and personally that just made it a better read for me.
I adored all the characters, especially India, Liam, Ally and Hank. I also really enjoyed India’s gay next door neighbors, and India’s stint as a helper at Drag Night at the local gay bar. The characters are all fully realized by the author, as was the slimy bad guys featured.
This was such a fun read. It’s an adult read, features great characters, and was a zany madcap ride that was reminiscent of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series at times-which I loved up until the last few installments. There really are a lot of similarities, but there’s nothing wrong with that, when I was younger I would have loved to party with India and Stephanie!

ABOUT KRISTEN ASHLEY
Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.
Nothing’s changed.
Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).
Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.
And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
