A suspense-driven New Adult romance novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author of Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water.
Armed with two years’ worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.
Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn’t let her die, but he also can’t be identified at the scene—so, he fled. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Pushing her away would be the smart move.
Maybe it’s because he saved her life, or maybe it’s because he’s completely different from everything she’s left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.
And River isn’t the kind of guy she’d want to catch.

K.A. Tucker is my favorite contemporary romance author, even if I first found her by reading her supernatural series a few years ago. So when I found this book on Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review, I snapped it up.
Amber is traveling by herself on a several city world tour, and is now in Dublin. She manages to get herself right in the middle of a bomb plot from the new IRA-and she has no idea what she has stumbled into. After getting saved by River, he runs off before she can get his name. She eventually finds him running the pub his family owns. Amber is completely smitten by him and he with her, but he knows if could really be a problem due to his brother’s link to criminal elements.
As usual, Ms. Tucker has written characters with heart, ones that are fully realized and well rounded. Amber is sister to Jesse from the previous books. She’s a nurse, and saved for a long time in order to do go on this trip. She wants something more than the small town she lives in, or at least to have memories to fall back on. River is the quintessential nice guy, only he has secrets that could ruin anything he might ever hope to have with Amber. Ivy is from Amber’s hometown in Oregon, but now lives in Dublin. She’s a tattoo artist and very much her own person. They were never friends, but it’s amazing what can happen when you are alone in a foreign country. Rounding out the main characters is Rowen, River’s younger brother, college student, and fellow pub worker. I loved him as a character, and I would love to see him get his happily ever after as well some day. Ivy too for that matter. Villains? River’s brother Aengus fits that bill. So do any of his associates.
This is told in first person, and from both Amber and River’s point of view. It really worked for me to see what each person’s prespective on all the events were. The author’s writing is impeccable, as always. Before the book begins, the author included a short history of the Irish Republican Army, and all the civil unrest in Ireland, and I found that fascinating. I would suggest that readers definitely read this, as it will give a sort of background for some events in the book. This is definitely not a simple romance by any means, but then this author’s books rarely are.
I loved the premise, the characters, the romance, the thriller aspects, and I would recommend it to adult romance readers.
