The USA TODAY bestselling author of the Ten Tiny Breaths series and Burying Water—which Kirkus Reviews called “a sexy, romantic, gangster-tinged page-turner”—returns with a new novel packed with romance, plot twists, and psychological suspense.
Ivy Lee, a talented tattoo artist who spent the early part of her twenties on the move, is looking for a place to call home. She thinks she might have finally found it working in her uncle’s tattoo shop in San Francisco. But all that changes when a robbery turns deadly, compelling her to pack up her things yet again.
When they need the best, they call him. That’s why Sebastian Riker is back in California, cleaning up the mess made after a tattoo shop owner who resorted to blackmail and got himself shot. But it’s impossible to get the answers he needs from a dead body, leaving him to look elsewhere. Namely, to the twenty-something-year-old niece who believes this was a random attack. Who needs to keep believing that until Sebastian finds what he’s searching for.
Ivy has one foot out of San Francisco when a chance encounter with a stranger stalls her departure. She’s always been drawn to intense men, so it’s no wonder that she now finds a reason to stay after all, quickly intoxicated by his dark smile, his intimidating strength, and his quiet control.
That is, until Ivy discovers that their encounter was no accident—and that their attraction could be her undoing.

A new book by K.A.Tucker is like receiving a gift to me. They’re always the kind of books that pull you in and immerse you into all the romance, action and wonderful characters. This is the fourth and final book in the burying Burying Water series. I received a copy from the publisher by way of Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Ivy is a talented tattoo artist, a vagabond, and has attitude oozing from her pores. She’s been a peripheral character in the other books in this series, and I have been really looking forward to her story. Having said that, this book could be a stand alone, but if I were you I would start with Burying Water and read the whole series. Definitely worth it. I couldn’t help but wonder what man would finally interest Ivy enough to settle down, and I felt that the author managed to find the perfect man. Not that he is perfect, but more that he is an extremely strong, masculine man, someone that can balance Ivy’s prickly personality. Sebastian is an ex-navy seal, and is now pretty much an assassin. Although he only kills people in order to save other lives. Or so he thinks. When Ivy’s uncle Ned is murdered in the tattoo shop he owns, Ivy is an unwitting witness and a loose end that the killers want to take care of. Sebastian is sent in to find an object that was the reason for the murder in the first place. In order to do that, he has to get close to Ivy and possibly kill her if he needs to. Yeah, like that’s going to happen.
Ivy has always been such a good character. She’s so not a cookie cutter character. Complex, and as I said before prickly-that’s Ivy. She’s half Chinese and half Spanish, tiny of stature, and wears her many tattoos proudly. She’s also a master of hiding her emotions. Sebastian is quiet, a loner, extremely fit, and is really good at his job. What he’s not good at, is falling for one of his possible targets.
This read ended up being a run for your life type of read, if the person that should be running has no idea. And that would be Ivy. Sebastian morphs into her protector, and it was a lot of fun watching that happen, and watching their relationship and Ivy’s insecurities manifest all at the same time. That doesn’t even touch on what Sebastian, a man who thought he would always be alone, was going through. It was an excellent read as always with K.A.Tucker’s books and I can’t wait to see what direction the author goes for her next series. So far I have enjoyed them all and that does include her paranormal one as well.
Recommended to adult romantic suspense fans. Adult due to some pretty hot sexy scenes as well as some violence.
