This offbeat film industry romantic comedy stars Charlie Zimmerman, an awkward film reviewer who chooses to become a sensational, verbally incontinent film critic known as the “Angry Movie Guy” in order to achieve fame and success. When his biting review and explosive T.V. fit threatens to destroy the career of Alexa, an absent minded fiery independent filmmaker whom Charlie has fallen in love with, he must re-examine his personal life and career. This event serves as a catalyst for his Grinch-like personal redemption. More in touch with his feelings, Charlie relentlessly pursues Alexa like a love-struck fool while Harry, the lewd producer of his show unrelentingly plots against the budding romance using the “bad publicity” model as his tool to keep them apart. Charlie won’t give up without a fight! In the end, he is able to move beyond his egocentric personality and win the heart of Alexa. This book flawlessly blends witty dialogue, inadequacy, self-hatred, and a comfortable familiarity with the types of personalities that readers will connect with.

If you like something that is packed with ironic wit, then you’ll like this.
As mentioned in the introduction of this book the author, Izzy Church, has honed this, rewritten bits and you can tell. There’s nothing to fault with the actual prose. The astral character maybe.
This is a story that also tells the plot of a movie in which are two romantic leads that our main character, Charlie, is obsessed with emulating and not only that this successful movie reviewer is trying to move on from the events of the past and find the love of his life, who he doesn’t yet know the name of.
There’s a trippy few pages where Charlie is having a dream and there were many layers to it that I was starting to feel disturbed reading it. It’s clear at this point that our main character is not of sound mind. I think before it finds its feet, this book does carry a lot of confusion in its narrative.
This is a sad story. Charlie has become his on screen persona and he doesn’t know who he is. But the comedy, especially in the dialogue, is laugh out loud and balanced nicely with the sad story of Charlie. The love story is farcical and almost like a fairy tale, but it made me shed tears.
A thrilling page turner.
