Lara Adrian. I am a huge fan of her Midnight Breed paranormal series. I have read all of them, so when I saw this new contemporary erotic romance by her, I immediately requested it from Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I did this even though I am not a big fan of erotica. That being said, I loved this book. So much.
Avery Ross is a bartender/artist that is going to be evicted in two weeks. She has no family that can help her, and has no place to go. So when out of the blue she gets the chance to house sit in a luxury high rise for four months, she jumps at the chance. The icing on the cake? She gets paid as well. She pretty much runs into Nick Baine the first night. They don’t speak then, but things are intense from the get go. While attending an art gallery showing they meet again. Chemistry off the charts. And so begins an erotic journey unlike anything Avery has ever experienced. Problem? She lies to Baine from the outset and he has no idea that she is a bartender or that she is homeless. She also has deeper darker secrets that she is afraid to tell him.
This could have been just a book with a lot of sex scenes. Instead, Ms. Adrian introduces characters to care about. Avery was a wonderful character that has had a horrible past. Nick is a mega billionaire that never allows himself to fall in love or get involved with anyone deeply. Avery has a best friend that she works with named, Tasha. Tasha is one of those “what you see is what you get” type of women. The best friend anyone could ever want and Avery’s sounding board for all things Nick-within reason. Another friend, Margot works at the art gallery that was showing Avery’s work. She has a link to Nick that Avery knew nothing about.Her boss at the restaurant and a suck up waitress named Kimmie, are the villains of the book. All of the characters were drawn exceptionally well by the author.
So okay, it’s a bit Cinderella like in a way. Poor girl, rich guy and all the wonderful things that he introduces her to. That didn’t bother me in the slightest. He may have been a bit arrogant at times, but he developed real feelings for Avery, as she did for him. Of course,not all is perfect, as in life.
This was the first of three books and when I finished, I looked immediately to see when the next one releases-winter of 2016. I can not wait.
Well written, this book just cemented to me what a good writer Ms. Adrian is.This story isn’t for everyone, but I thought the sexual scenes were done a lot more tastefully than some erotica. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing tame here, but I wasn’t DNF’ing the book either! Highly recommended to adult contemporary/erotica romance readers.
