My name is Amelia Gray.I am the Graveyard Queen, a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. My father passed down four rules to keep me safe and I’ve broken every last one. A door has opened and evil wants me back.In order to protect myself, I’ve vowed to return to those rules. But the ghost of a murdered cop needs my help to find his killer. The clues lead me to the dark side of Charleston—where witchcraft, root doctors and black magic still flourish—and back to John Devlin, a haunted police detective I should only love from afar. Now I’m faced with a terrible choice: follow the rules or follow my heart.
Holy crap on a cracker “The Prophet” was good. I actually think I might need a cigarette it was so good…
Amelia is back in Charleston, back to her home, and back to trying to figure out how to live without Devlin. After tallying to long at one of her favorite stores, she finds herself walking home at twilight. Called by the song of a nightingale she finds herself in a stranger’s garden where she sees Devlin embracing another woman. If only she knew then that the nightingale’s song not only lead her to the garden, but also thrust her into the mysteries surrounding the man she shouldn’t love.
Like more foreshadowing? It’s less prevalent than in the first book, but still there…
Anyways, the mystery in “The Prophet” all seems to center on Devlin. Why can’t Shani move on? Why is Mariama still haunting him? Who killed his friend Robert Freeman? What is Mariama’s cousin Darius up to? Why do all paths lead back to Devlin?
I’m not saying another word, because I don’t want to spoil it for you. What I can tell you is that we finally, FINALLY, get the resolution to those loose ends that have been haunting us for the entire series. (see what I did there?) Just as a warning, some of these are going to shock you. Not in that pleasant way either, oh no, this is full on 50,000 volts that stops you heart.
And when you finally get to the climax… Well I really did feel like I needed a cigarette, and I don’t even smoke. To be honest, there could have been glaring errors in the book and I might not have even noticed. It felt like the first three books were an arc, and finally after over 1,000 pages, the payoff was sweet. I don’t know if she’ll continue the series, it was left with a definite conclusion that hinted at more, but I certainly hope she will.
5 spooks, haunts, specters, creeps, and ghosts. The only thing missing was Thane. And Tilly and Sidra, but mainly Thane and dueling pistols at dawn for Amelia’s affection.
