REVIEW by Lorna: Kissed by a Dark Prince (Eternal Mates #1) by Felicity Heaton (@felicityheaton , @Mollykatie112)

kissedbyadarkprince-felicityheatonOlivia thinks it’s her lucky night when a dangerously handsome unconscious fae ends up on her inspection table. He’s her chance to redeem herself with her employer, the demon-hunting organisation, Archangel. But when the tall, dark and deadly immortal warrior awakes, she gets much more than she bargained for…
Attacked by his enemy in the elf kingdom, the last thing Prince Loren expects when he comes around is a beautiful angel watching over him and medical technology of the mortal realm. Hazy from his injuries, all he can focus on is the pulse ticking in her throat and the sweet allure of her blood.
One single bite reveals she is his eternal mate, triggering a bond between them that will leave him weakened until it is completed… or broken, and pulling Olivia into the crossfire of his ancient feud.
To protect his people and his mate from the machinations of a madman, Loren must risk everything by working with Olivia at Archangel to find a way to break the bond blossoming between them.

But will Loren be strong enough to place duty before desire and give up the one thing he has waited millennia for and craves above all others—his eternal mate? And will Olivia be able to resist the incredible heat that burns between them and the temptation of her dark prince’s kiss?

Finally. I have been holding on to this book in my tbr pile for far too long. I kept meaning to read it, you know, because everyone had already read it and loved it. And now I am hopelessly behind in all of her many series. But, you have to start somewhere!
Elves? Those little guys making toys in Santa’s workshop? Not even close. Elves in this author’s world building are super tall and every inch the warrior. At least the ones in this book are that way. They are also the forefathers of vampires, drink blood, but also eat food and can go out in the sun. My favorite thing? They can teleport. I love when an author has intricately detailed world building and Ms. Heaton has that in spades in this book.
Olivia is a human doctor that works for Archangel, an agency that both hunts demons, vampires etc, and either kills them or studies them in a laboratory setting. When Prince of the Elves, Loren, is brought to Olivia’s laboratory table for study, things become interesting, because he’s not dead, only gravely injured. To her, Loren is the epitome of the sexiest man alive, but she must ignore that for scientific reasons. When Loren wakes up, injured and sees Olivia, she is both beautiful to him and a savior, because he needs her blood to heal. This is the story of what happens to them both when her blood starts them binding-eternally. Needless to say Olivia isn’t on board with that largely due to a dark past and she has the scars to prove it. Loren, also has a dark past, of course since he is fifty thousand years old, he has had lots of time to come to some kind of terms with it. It involves his insane brother Vail and his quest to end Loren and become sole leader of the elves. Vail’s forever mate is a dark witch named Kordula, and is the other villain of this book.
I enjoyed the characters immensely. Olivia is both scientifically inclined and attracted to Loren. Loren knows one thing. Olivia is his one and only and he must protect her at all costs from Vail. Also introduced are his second in command, Bleu, an elf that is extremely loyal at all costs to Loren. Olivia’s best friend at Archangel is Sable, a beautiful demon and vampire hunter. She is never without her bow and arrows. We also meet a demon king in the latter part of the book that I know will be featured in the second book titled, Claimed by a Demon King. Sable is the main character in that one, so that promises to be a good read as well.
And this really was a good read. It took me a bit longer than normal to read than is my normal, and I couldn’t begin to tell you why. It was full of life and death moments and battles, plenty of romance and sexy moments, but might have been a tad slow for me at times. Maybe. I got a bit tired of Olivia quibbling back and forth about what she wanted, but then deciding on an eternal mate is a big decision. Or maybe it was just my mood. But I did enjoy it and have every intention of reading the next one.
I recommend this book to paranormal romance readers and even urban fantasy fans will find enough battling and other worldly characters to satisfy them. I ended up glad that I had finally read Ms. Heatons’ work and look forward to more.

  1. Yay! I’m so happy you *finally* read this, Lorna, and that you loved it. 🙂 I love Heaton’s world building as well. It’s fantastic. And I also like how well choreographed her action scenes are. It’s been awhile since I read this one but her action scenes are something that really stands out in her stories, for me. I hope you’ll continue in the series soon. I think that book #2 is my favorite in the series…but I’m getting ready to read Bleu’s story, so I’ll refrain from making a final decision. 🙂
