RANDOMS: My Chat With Kerrelyn Sparks (@avonbooks, @kerrelynsparks)

As I’ve mentioned before, I was lucky enough to get picked for this term of Avon Addicts with Avon Books.  Tonight, we had an Shindig video chat with Kerrelyn herself.  We talked about everything from publishing to her Love At Stake series and her newest release The Forbidden Lady.

In the chat, we found out that Kerrelyn’s inspiration for the characters in The Forbidden Lady were actually inspired by two beautiful statues that her grandmother gave her as a child.

Originally published about 10 years ago under the title For Love or Country, The Forbidden Lady has been revamped.  Kerrelyn tackled it with a red pen and added some sexier scenes than what was originally written.  With today’s view point on romance novels, For Love or Country was decidedly tame so she fixed that.  *wink wink*

She also talked a lot about her existing urban fantasy/paranormal romance Love At Stake series.  You know how much we love UF and PNR here so I was all over that.  I immediately hopped on to one of the eARC sites and got myself a copy of Wild About You, the upcoming installment in the Love At Stake series.  Wild About You is the 13th book in the series, but Kerrelyn assures us that the entire series are all stand alone books.

Similar to the way the Night Huntress World books (by Jeaniene Frost) are written, each installment has a new hero and heroine and you don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy one later on in the series.  She says that most of her readers start with a later book only to find out later that it isn’t the first book in the series.

When asked if she has a favorite hero in her books, she said that it would be impossible to choose.  When writing each book, she falls in love with the hero that she’s writing at the time and the previous is sort of forgotten for the time.  She said she loves all of her heroes for  unique reasons.

Overall, it was a great chat.  Kerrelyn has a great sense of humor and you can tell when listening to her speak about her books and her characters that she’s a real romantic at heart.  I had a blast participating in the chat and I encourage all of you to check her books out!
