[JENA] We have readers all over the world and I am always curious to see where our favorite authors are from. Where do you call base camp?
BRANDY DORSCH [BRANDY] I recently transplanted into Pittsburgh, PA after having spent the last five years in Bismarck, ND.

[JENA] A common trend as of late is cross-genre authors. It has become relatively uncommon to come across an author who only writes in one specific genre. It seems there are a lot of writers who like to dip their toes in all sorts of pools. Which genre or genres do you write?
[BRANDY] I have dipped my toes in the world of paranormal. However, I am currently working on an erotica series and some contemporary.

[JENA] Writers get inspiration from all over the place. Movies, books, music, people in their life, their own life, etc. Who or what is your most common muse?
[BRANDY] I would have to say that movies and music inspire me. I love music and even though the words speak to me, most of the time it is the beat that writes my story.

[JENA] Are you 100% independently published or do you have traditional contracts as well? If you are 100% indie, would you ever consider a traditional publishing contract? Why or why not?
[BRANDY] I am strictly indie publisher. I don’t think I would consider a traditional contract. The fact is my life is super busy and writing is not always first on my list. I would love to be able to produce multiple books a year for a house but it is not currently in my cards.

[JENA] Writer’s block sucks. What do you do to overcome the blank stare when it hits you with everything it has got?
[BRANDY] I am currently in it with my second book of the Hunger Mates series. My characters are being stubborn. I decided to work on some other projects in the mean time.

[JENA] Let’s gab about your books. What fictiony goodness have you already unleashed on the general populous?
[BRANDY] I published the first in my Hunger Mate series, Everlasting Hunger last year. It is the story of Ellie and her passion and love for two vampires. I know what your thinking, another paranormal vampire story, right? Well, let’s just say that my characters don’t follow the traditional pattern for relationships and they like it that way.

I also wrote a short story that follows Everlasting Hunger called Eternal Beginnings. It was included in an anthology called The Stroke of Midnight.

[JENA] What’s next for you and your writing? Any new titles coming out?
[BRANDY] I am working on several projects right now. I am hoping to have Wicked Desire, the next book in the Hunger Mate Series out later this year. I am toying with my erotic series and trying to plan out a date for that as well.

[JENA] The latest trend with the indie author world is massive book signings and conventions featuring anywhere from 20 authors to 200 authors. What has your experience been at these events? Do you enjoy them? Or do they make you twitch and sweat?
[BRANDY] I went to my first signing in February. It was the Tasty Author Weekend in Wilmington, NC. It was amazing. It was what I would consider intimate. There were about two dozen or so authors and they were great. We had so much fun and it was a fabulous way to get my feet wet.

[JENA] Do you have any appearances coming up? If so, tell us when and where (provide links if you have them).
[BRANDY] My next appearance is at the Pure Textuality Convention in Minneapolis, MN in October. Super excited about it!!

[JENA] Now it’s time for some just-for-fun questions! If you were digitized like Tron and put on the internet what site would you visit first?
[BRANDY] Hmmm, I would like to head straight to The Vampire Diaries websites. I have a serious crush on Damon Salvatore.

[JENA] Have you ever Googled yourself? If so, were you surprised or shocked by any of the results?
[BRANDY] My son actually Googled me and he thought it was awesome that his mom was on the internet. I haven’t done it because I feel like there is no real reason to.

[JENA] What would you do with a million dollars?
[BRANDY] Most of my followers know that my husband has been living with cancer the last couple of years. I would use it to set up a trust to allow for more research for the type of cancer he has.

[JENA] If you were trapped on a desert island with one CD that you could listen to for the rest of your life what would it be?
[BRANDY] As a self-proclaimed music junkie, it would be cruel to limit me to one CD but I would have to say it would be Evenescence and their album Fallen. That album has been the soundtrack to my life more times than I can count.

[JENA] How do you consume – read the book then watch the movie or watch the movie then read the book?
[BRANDY] I truly believe you should always read the book before you watch the movie. You get more from it that way.

[JENA] If you could live forever, would you? Why or why not?
[BRANDY] I would live forever. I know the downside is everyone around you is going to die but that would happen regardless if you lived forever or not. The things I could experience and what I could contribute would out weigh the negatives.

[JENA] If you were faced with the zombie apocalypse and had to pick five people to be on your survival team, who would you pick?
[BRANDY] You. Seriously, you are one of the most kick ass people I have the privilege of calling friend and I know you could take on some zombies, so you are on the team. My son, Liam would be in as well. That kid is obsessed with The Walking Dead and I think it could be an asset. MacGyver would be in because his skills would come in handy when the world is ending. Bear Grylls is on the team because he can survive anything and he can advise on what is safe to eat and how to prepare it. My final pick is Damon Salvatore. Sorry, I just think it would be awesome to have a sexy vampire on the team.

[JENA] Imagine the concept of reincarnation is real, who or what would you hope to come back as in your next life?
[BRANDY] That’s an interesting concept. I have never really given it any thought but I think it would be cool to come back as a sea turtle. They live a long time and I think it would be cool to explore the ocean.
