NEW RELEASE REVIEW by Lorna: Darkness Bound (Night Prowler #5) by J.T.Geissinger (@JTGeissinger , @Mollykatie112)

Darkness BoundTough, smart, and seriously ambitious, reporter Jacqueline “Jack” Dolan despises the secretive clan of shape-shifters known as the Ikati—and has become determined to destroy them. After she writes an editorial arguing for their extermination and turns public opinion against them, the Ikati vow to fight back. They plot to send one of their own to seduce the reporter, then blackmail her into writing a retraction.
Women practically fall at the feet of hulking, handsome Hawk Luna, and Hawk relishes the idea of conquering and destroying the fiery redhead who’s caused so much trouble for his kind. The last thing he expects is to develop real feelings for her, but their liaison awakens a hunger in him that he cannot deny. He kidnaps Jack and brings her to his Amazon jungle colony, but the two lovers are soon embroiled in deadly colony politics and threatened by a looming global species war.
As the danger around them grows closer, Jack and Hawk’s forbidden passion may build a bridge between two ancient enemies—or cost them both their lives.

A Secret society of black panther shifters is the backdrop for the latest installment of the Night Prowler series by J.T.Geissinger. This series is as addicting as it is well written. It is also one of my very favorite paranormal series ever. I went into the book thinking it was the last book of the series but was recently corrected by the author and that was a very happy moment. Just one more left after this book though, but I would happily read as many of these as the author would write.
Jacqueline(Jack) Dolan is the ultimate war correspondent. Virtually fearless, she spends way too much time in war torn countries. Not much of a life, but she’s pretty much okay with that. She’s in Brazil, it’s her birthday, and she meets a mysterious, handsome man named Hawk, who keeps turning up everywhere. She ends up seduced and set up with pictures. Why? Because she wrote a Pulitzer nominated article demanding the extermination of all of the Ikati race of panther shifters. Blackmail and revenge, pure and simple, followed by kidnapping and being transported to the heart of the jungle where the Ikati live in obscurity.
What I liked about this book:
The characters of Jack and Hawk top my list of course. The author has fully realized each of them; we get each back story, as well as their dreams of a different life. Neither are happy and neither have much of a life. When they find each other, they have found their better life-hopefully. Of course, it doesn’t seem like it at first, but you know that’s where it’s going.

Which brings me to the romance. Off the charts chemistry, and some really steamy scenes lead to a pretty great relationship, complete with the bones of a good friendship as well, but it does take awhile for all of this-well except for the first steamy scene!
The Ikati society is in rare form in this book. They have always been a dark society but this time the darkness is really out there. The main villain in this book, the Alpha of the jungle enclave of Ikati, was just as evil as you want a good villain to be. I am putting this in the like column but I really despised this character. And that’s how it should be, a villain this well written deserves to be in the like column, even if he is despicable.
I enjoyed the author’s vision of the setting in the jungle. It is so well described that I could just see it like I was there. A large group of shifters that live in tree homes, all interconnected, was a pretty different setting for a book.
What didn’t I like about this book:
I was thinking about leaving this blank, because yes, this book is that good. If I had one complaint-We have to wait until October for the next one! So no not really anything I didn’t like.

Who would I recommend this book to:
Paranormal romance and Urban Fantasy readers.

If you haven’t started reading this series yet, you are really missing out on a good story, always good characters and just a great adventure story and that’s true for the entire series.
Full disclosure-I am a member of this author’s street team and that’s because of how great this series is.
